Autoportrait. Martin Parr

Autoportrait. Martin Parr

17/03/2016

For the last twenty years Martin Parr has been bringing back from each of his travel, a very special souvenir: a self-portrait. These portraits, taken all over the world by a local studio photographer, a street photographer, or in a photo booth, reveal the funny side of holiday popular imaging. From horrendously re-touched digital photographs to portraits in cosmonaut or in judoka beside Vladimir Poutine, we follow the artist evolve through the years from 1996 and 2015. As with all Parr’s projects, the book is not only hilarious but also raises broader issues of identity and self, questioning the whole notion of the photographic portrait.
This enjoyable little book is designed like one of those funny and universal objects that Martin Parr is so fond of: this book allows us to enter into the photographer’s head through a real labyrinth game embeded in the cover.
